Bess Martin has hidden 500 handmade clay bears around Kirklees for people to find between July and November 2015
The Golden Bear Hunt
Where: Across Kirklees
When: 20th July – 31st October
How much: FREE
Bess makes artistic trails and treasure hunts and can turn her hand to just about anything – making costumes for stiltwalkers, woodturning, pottery, painting and embroidery for starters. We were impressed by the balance between adult intelligence and childlike curiosity in Bess’s work – and of course her ambitious plans to hide golden bears all over Kirklees with a series of clues and surprises to keep adults and children guessing. Will you find a golden bear?
Look out for clues both locally and on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook (search ‘bessinabout’) and follow her walking blog as she attempts to tread as many of the Kirklees footpaths as possible – spreading the bears far and wide.

The year is 2067. Climate change has become climate chaos, and even 75 miles inland is not safe from the sea. A series of short spoken-word performances will submerge you in this new world with its own history, populated by seemingly familiar people, places and stories. But as with all future scenarios nothing is certain...
Lyrical, engaging and ultimately reinforcing the importance of ecologies, this walk will transform every landlubber to hypothetical seafarer.
